Portugal is an exceptional destination for cycle tourism. The varied landscapes, quiet roads and tracks, fantastic gastronomy and generosity of the people make for wonderful experiences on two wheels.
We have created this N2 route over 6 days, with an average of 120km per day to be achievable for most cyclists. You will stay in great 3-4* hotels and we will eat in great traditional restaurants serving fantastic local dishes and wine.
My main aim with any cycle tour in Portugal is to give my clients a glimpse of real Portugal. And this one will be no exception.
I can't wait to share this beautiful country with you all as you travel from the very north to the very south of Portugal over 738km.
Below you will find all the details for our 6-day trip in May 2026, and when you are ready to sign up, simply click 'Book Now' and follow the steps.
For any questions at all, don't hesitate to reach out to Tomás your tour manager at [email protected].

We recommend a flight that arrives in the morning of May 9th into Porto Airport. We will meet in you in arrivals!
We will arrange for you to be taken (with any bikes and luggage you have of course!) from Porto Airport to Chaves, the home of KM0.
After your arrival we will set up your bikes and have a welcome briefing.
In the evening we will enjoy dinner all together in a traditional restaurant in the town centre.
The first day will you straight into the heart of the Douro Valley – famous for its wine and beautiful landscapes.
We have made this a slightly shorter day, to get the group acclimatised and pace themselves for the days to come.
Duration
87km, 1100m+
We will stay in the bike-friendly Hotel Columbano, located just a 10 minute walk from the centre of Peso da Regua. Unwind on the rooftop terrace, taking in stunning views of the Douro River.
Along the whole N2 route, there are stone KM markers at almost every kilometre of the route. This one shows 155 and you will pass this today!
This day will take you first out of Peso da Regua for a long climb through fabulous vineyards and continuing on through traditional villages built with large dark stone and large swathes of forest and agriculture.
You will end the day in Tondela, a charming town with many great restaurants and cafes.
Duration
105km, 1862m+
This is one of our favourite hotels right on the N2 in the lovely town of Tondela. We always have such a friendly welcome here from the staff who we have made friends with over the years. Easy bike storage, spacious rooms and a pool overlooking the mountains makes this hotel ideal for our cycling guests.
The N2 today starts with an easy stretch down to the beautiful Santa Comba Dão, and winds through Penacova and over some initial hills to Gois. Then we have a long climb out of Gois, through the pine-covered region, down to the Zezere river and into Pedrogao Grande.
Duration
123km, 1900m+
The climb out of Góis is tough but worth it for the incredible views!
This amazing 4* hotel sits on the top of a hill overlooking the reservoir for the river Zêzere. It has a spectacular pool and restaurant looking at the view, as well as a spa and spacious bedrooms.
Hotel restaurant.
The first half of today continues winding through the hilly pine-covered region, past Serta and Vila de Rei, along the small and winding N2 'Antigua' - usually a highlight section for our guests! After lunch in Abrantes with its impressive castle, the landscape opens up into the rolling southern Alentejo landscape you will know for the coming days. The 20km of the day is very flat, and can be hot too - a completely different landscape from the previous days.
Duration
132km, 1500m+
It's time for a real treat at the end of this longer day of cycling through the Alentejo - the 5* hotel of Montargil which overlooks the stunning Montargil Reservoir. Relax in style in the luxurious rooms, spa or by one of the mulitple pools. The superb breakfast will certainly be a highlight as well!
This penultimate day takes you through the heart of the Alentejo – through long straight tree-lined roads for much of the day. You will pass through the beautiful blue and white villages of Torrão and Brotas before reaching your destination at the fantastic 4* hotel of Hotel do Gato – a perfect place to relax after your day of cycling.
Difficulty
122km, 1400m+
Today will take riders through the southern Alentejo, vast plains and small traditional villages and into the ‘Serra de Caldeirão’ in the northern Algarve. We believe this to be one of the most stunning stretches of the N2, as it winds through cork oak forests. The last 30km are mostly downhill as riders make the descent from Barranco do Velho to Faro. A must-do is a stop by the final N2 Roundabout, to cement your completion of this challenge!
Duration
154km, 1700m+
We will finish with another treat - the 5* Eva Senses hotel right on the Marina in Faro.
Stunning huge rooms overlooking the Ria Formosa, and within a stones throw distance to all the bars and restaurants in the centre of town.
We will be sad to see you leave!
We will take you to Faro Airport in time for your flight.
Até a proxima...
Expect early to mid-20sC in the north and 30+C in the Alentejo by afternoon. May is an excellent time to cycle in Portugal, with green landscapes and wildflowers in bloom. We'd be very unlucky to get multiple days of rain, but it can happen.
The N2 is achievable for most cyclists with some consistent training. Early days are designed to ease riders in. The road itself rarely exceeds 10% gradient, but the challenge is riding consecutive days across the full country.
Everyone has days that are more or less challenging - but we are there every pedal stroke of the way to encourage and support you!
Expect fantastic Portuguese cuisine suitable for cyclists and great coffee stops during the ride. Dinners will be either at the hotel or within walking distance.
Our support van will follow us during the day, and will be accessible at least once for you to get your day bag. We will stop twice at suitable locations to have a coffee, snack and then lunch. The van will be stocked with water, bars, bananas, energy drink, nuts, and other snacks, as well as a light lunch (e.g. sandwiches) for everyone each day.
Please note that we stop at cafés - coffee bought there is not included - but we really encourage customers to support the local community through buying a coffee or drink when they can!
